![]() He takes pride in bardic traditions and as such, he thinks poorly of his fellow bard Mikael, who is more concerned with gold and wooing women than singing well. He seems to despise Mikael because of his misuse of his bard knowledge saying that he only sings for the money and the women.Īn aspiring bard, Jon desires to enter the Bards College, but his parents are hesitant to let him go. He is implied to be a bit of a romantic (or at least less of a traditional Nordic warrior) compared to the rest of the family, both in his appreciation of Nordic culture and his disdain for the war-oriented Nordic mindset. Jon is very polite, intelligent and friendly, and a typical Nordic adherent to northern customs and traditions. His sister Alfhild talks about him: My brother Jon's got the right of it - join the Bards College and avoid this pointless war." Perhaps due to his relationship with Olfina Gray-Mane, he seems unimpressed with the Civil War. He can be seen around Belethor's General Goods. He is the son of Olfrid and Bergritte, and brother of Alfhild Battle-Born, and uncle of Lars. His clan, the Battle-Borns, are known supporters of the Empire. He can usually be found outside Belethor's General Goods in the Plains District, and at The Bannered Mare at night. He is a member of the Battle-Born Clan, rivals of the Gray-Mane Clan. The only reproducible strangeness with aggro seems to come from the guard/soldiers thing I mentioned.(I should also point out that many people allied with the Stormcloaks seem to hate me, despite the fact that I've not allied with either side, nor even started the civil war quest).Jon Battle-Born is a young Nordic warrior who lives in Whiterun. Skyrim is strange, even without mods these things can randomly break. Usually, I can reload to an earlier save and they stop being aggro, which leads me to believe that it is a random glitch. ![]() Other than that, I've had the odd actor go aggro with no rhyme or reason for it. But if I let my allies kill him for me, I get no penalty. It's weird, because if its a guard, it won't be every guard in town, just one guard, unless, of course, I have the audacity to defend myself, in which case all the guards will attack me. More often than not, I get attacked by random guards allied with teh Stormcloaks. I've got Civil War Overhaul, and I'm not wearing any Imperial or Stormclaok uniform items that I'm aware of (unless the fur boots count). I sometimes get attacked for no reason by Stormcloak soldiers and Imperials alike. I find that actor agression is something that can break on some characters over time, even in an unmodded game. It could be a mod, but it could also not be. A justifiable homicide since he attacked me first I suppose. Oh and when we fight, if me or my follwers kills him, I get no bounty from it. ![]() Why is he attacking me? Has anyone esle ever had this friendly bard go crazy on them before? I like Talsgar, I don't want him dead if I can avoid it. I tried to avoid him for 30 seconds or so, sheathing my weapon in hopes he'd stop but then all the bar patrons came after him, and of course slaughtered him. As soon as I take 1 step in, he goes crazy again. Of course my band of followers bludgeoned him to death within seconds.īut I like Talsgar, so I loaded my last save, only about 10 seconds prior to entering the tavern, this time telling my follweres to "relax" outside. Talsgar was there singing, but as I approached the bar to sit, he attacked me. ![]() ![]() ![]() The game is also on Steam for Windows/Mac/SteamOS + Linux. Sure, these random events could be a pain at times, but they were often the highlight of the game and were what made me keep coming back for more. An Android version will arrive this summer. Death Road to Canada offers a quirky yet addictive zombie-slaying adventure that takes a well-trodden genre and freshens it up through humour and some zany random events. And Canada? Well, I’ve not made it yet, but I’ll get there eventually – or die (dozens of times) trying.ĭeath Road to Canada is available for iOS. But the game’s so relentlessly entertaining, smart and funny that you won’t mind all the deaths.Īnd anyway, the clue was always in the title: this one’s about roads and death. Scenes repeat over multiple games, but you never know whether you’ll end up in a clearing with a black-suited man trying to convince you a nearby alien with a laser gun doesn’t exist, or discovering not only that your team can include dogs but also that they sometimes suggest making Molotov cocktails.Īt times, the game’s abrupt nature grates – not least when a moose you try to assist gouges your sole surviving character to death, or when half your supplies are lost because a team member doesn’t spot a hole in their bag. You’ll learn which characters to use in certain situations, who’s worth training up, and who to unceremoniously ditch if everyone starts whining.īut there’s a randomness at the heart of this beast, too. What truly matters is that we can finally be together - and I can’t ever imagine a day where that won’t be the case again. In each journey, you’ll figure out more about how the game works. It’s all stuff I’m more than happy to accept, because I enjoy spending time with you so - but it did take me a bit too much scrutinizing to realize my character was wearing an eyepatch and then figure out which glasses option left their eyes unobstructed. I would also be remiss if I wasn’t truthful in admitting that sometimes (only sometimes) playing you on a smaller screen can make discerning important visual information (like what shelves have items on them or smaller details in the character creator) an issue as well. If you have the patience for a game that’s more than willing to punish the slightest mistake, where chance is as powerful as tactics, and if an action-oriented Oregon Trail-esque adventure sounds like your cup of tea, I can’t recommend Death Road to Canada enough. Never enough to truly make me think less of you, of course, but occasionally getting stuck on corners when trying to outrun a zombie horde, or not being able to close a door behind me because my character slid out of position on their own, are notable blemishes. Warning: Playing Death Road to Canada with your spouse may end in divorce. It’s all glorious.Īnd with so many variables, like random events and locations to explore, plus all of the different modes offered, I feel like I could play you forever.īut relationships are built on trust, so I must be honest with you: your controls can feel a bit clunky at times. The way survivors will get tired if they attack with a melee weapon too often and too fast the way that obviously heavy weapons tire them out much faster the fact that I don’t just create myself and my friends in the character creator, but that I can save those creations and call upon them over and over again that you offer me a game mode where my created characters appear often as other recruitable survivors during my travels the (eerily accurate the more I think about it) way that characters interact with each other the almost organic way things can go from “this isn’t so bad” to “OMG why is everybody dead?” in a heartbeat. If I want to avoid looking in a building entirely, well, you won’t make me. If I want to try and lead a group of zombies outside of a store and loop back so I can search in relative peace, you give me that opportunity. I enjoy every nail-biting moment spent trying to find hidden caches while avoiding cannibalistic hordes because I’m in direct control. ![]() The way you let me lead my small team of survivors around in real time as I search desperately for supplies, in a manner similar to an action-adventure game, is sublime. Yet while your inspiration is obvious, what’s even more of an inspiration is how you’ve taken such a recognizable and beloved framework and made it your own. Of course, how could you? You follow in the footsteps of classic - dare I say timeless - games about crossing the country and not dying horribly along the way. Now I can play you, and have played you, on my phone - and you did not disappoint. Sure I could have played you when you came out on Steam, but alas, I was selfish and gave priority to available hard drive space.īut the time for lamenting my abstinence, has passed. How I’ve longed for getting digital facsimiles of myself and my friends killed as I clumsily try to make my way through your particular brand of zombie apocalypse. This might be especially confusing for native English speakers since in English the verb “to have” (rather than “to go”) is commonly used in this case.ĭepending on the meaning and context of the sentence, the present perfect tense of the German verb “gehen” can either mean “I went” ( ich bin gegangen) or “I have gone”. When conjugating the German verb “gehen” in the present perfect tense, the verb “ sein” is used as a “helping verb”. I’ve already briefly talked about the Perfekt in the previous section. Conjugation of the German Verb “Gehen” – Present Perfect Tense ( Perfekt) – In the last couple of years, the company didn’t do well. In den letzten Jahren ging es der Firma nicht gut. – He went to the Netherlands to study the paintings of Vincent van Gogh.Īm Montagmorgen ist mein Föhn kaputt gegangen. Instead, most Germans use the Perfekt (present perfect) and rather opt for using “ ich bin gegangen”, which fulfills the role of the simple past tense in everyday and casual/informal language.īut before we move on to the more widely used present perfect, let’s take a look at some examples of the German verb “gehen” in the simple past tense.Įr ging in die Niederlande, um die Gemälde Vincent van Goghs zu studieren. If you’re in a non-formal situation, using the form “ich ging” will probably earn you some strange looks, as it sounds almost old-fashioned. In the simple past tense, the vowel in the middle changes from e to i, and in certain forms (such as in “ wir gingen” and “ sie gingen”) the suffix – en is added to the verb.Īs I mentioned earlier, the simple past tense is mostly used in formal or written language. Now, before we talk about the specifics, let me give you a better idea of how the simple past tense works. However, in day-to-day language, the simple past tense almost has completely vanished, and is instead replaced by the Perfekt (present perfect), which I’ll give you all the details about after we have a closer look at the Imperfekt. It is used a lot in written and formal language, so you’re likely to encounter it when listening to a speech, reading the newspaper or watching a documentary on TV. The simple past tense in German is kind of a special tense. Geht es, wenn wir uns morgen um fünf Uhr treffen? – Is it possible we’re meeting tomorrow at five o’clock? Conjugation of the German Verb “Gehen” – Simple Past Tense ( Imperfekt) Gehst du auch in die Theodor-Heuss-Schule? – Are you going to Theodor Heuss High School as well? So the only way to figure out whether a plan is immediate or not is to look at the actual meaning of the sentence (usually hinted at by temporal adverbs such as tomorrow). ![]() In German, however, whether you have concrete plans or not, there is only “I go” and not “I am going” or “I am going to go”. ![]() In English, the purpose of the present progressive tense is to indicate that you have certain plans for the future, as in I’m going to Chicago tomorrow. You’ve probably already noticed that in German there is no present progressive tense like in the English language. ![]() Conjugation of the German Verb “Gehen” – Present Tense ( Präsenz) The verb “gehen” has an irregular conjugation, which means that in certain forms the verb changes its vowels, and in its past participle form the suffix –en is added.īecause of this conjugation pattern, the word “gehen” is also described as a strong verb. The German verb “gehen” is used a lot, and it is quite possible that you will find yourself using it often as well. Whether you need to state where you’re going on holiday or ask a friend if they can meet you tomorrow at 6 PM – chances are you’ll want to use the German verb “gehen”. ![]() ![]() ![]() With such detailed and realistic models, mistakes are easily noticed. The trick and time-sink is the refinement. Ultimately, gaining a hyper-real baseline is technically easier. Even with the release of Unreal Engine 5, things that were dreams for game artists and designers, suddenly now seem realistically achievable. While it is expensive to get a full-body scan of an actor and a high-quality 3D model, the tools are there and available. The growing technology of the games industry means realistic game art and models are more accessible than ever. Trying to emulate a real-life look, surely that’s more difficult than an artist’s expression of a given style or theme. Hyper-Realism Initially, you would think that hyper-realism would be the difficult one to attain. So, for this comparison, we’re going to address the stylised artistic style as a whole. It pulls players into the comic book world and holds us there with the detailed elements drawing our attention, just like its source material. The latter is a heavily stylised, narrative experience that is an homage to the source comic books, created using Telltale’s proprietary game engine. It is a Disney- esque throwback to teeth-grindingly difficult old-school scrolling shooters. ![]() The former, is a 2D side-scroller that was painstakingly hand-drawn over many years. There are huge swathes of differences between ‘stylised’ games, such as Cuphead or The Wolf Among Us. Faces and characters look closer to real humans, visuals, assets, and elements have all gotten sharper, all emulating a real-life look. ![]() Over time, their visuals have gotten more realistic. The progression of the Call of Duty and Battlefield series are an excellent example. For hyper-realism, it is quite straightforward what is intended. In short, whether you want to favour a creative or thematic style over hyper-realistic visuals. It would be far too complicated to address the individual art styles, so we’re just going to tackle the question of stylised versus hyper-realistic art. Choosing the art style for your game can be difficult, there are benefits and difficulties on both sides. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Turret effects don't affect map stages (no turrets there), so definitely a good idea to not neglect upgrading modules.Ĭlan is useful for the weekend clan events, where each member can fight 1 wave per hour for keys, up to 10 waves throughout the weekend for 39 keys per member.
